How to Measure Clothing for a Better Fit

How to measure for a better fit

Critical Line curates clothing from several suppliers. A size marked M by one maker may fit differently from an M elsewhere. Compare garment measurements, not just size letters.

Start with a garment you own

Lay a similar garment flat without stretching it. Measure its width and length, then compare those dimensions with the specific product's supplier chart when available.

For tops and jackets

  • Chest/bust: Measure across the garment under the armholes, then double the flat width if the chart uses circumference.
  • Shoulder: Measure between shoulder seams.
  • Sleeve: Measure from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
  • Length: Measure from the highest shoulder point to the hem.

For trousers and skirts

  • Waist: Measure flat across the waistband and double if needed.
  • Hip: Measure across the fullest area.
  • Inseam: Measure the inside leg from crotch to hem.
  • Rise: Measure crotch seam to top of waistband.
  • Skirt length: Measure from the waistband to the hem.

For shoes

Use the supplier's size information and any available EU/US conversion for that particular brand. Size conversions are approximate; foot length and width, when supplied, are more useful than assuming the same size across makers.

Before ordering

Check the selected variant's current stock status and supplier-specific measurements. Material stretch, intended fit and garment structure can affect the result. If measurements or material information are missing, ask us before purchasing. See our returns policy and shipping policy.
